Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Connecting Heart Adoption offered us a timely, passionate, and experienced home study process from beginning to end. Amy and Taryn were a dynamic duo who answered our questions day or night and lead us through the process every step of the way. We completed our home study in only a few weeks without any fuss or set backs. Be proactive in getting your paperwork completed, and have fun/be ready for some personal questions in the interviews and Connecting Hearts will take care of the rest. Would highly recommend!

Amy @ connecting hearts should be your first call when starting the process of adoption. She is SO knowledgeable about every area. And if she doesn’t know, she will recommend someone who does! We adopted our baby through her network in less than 6 months! I always felt she was on our side and rooting for us, every step of the way!

My wife and I began our adoption journey last year around April and it has been a wild ride. We are just about to finish up the process this month for our 5 month old daughter.
We signed up and paid to use Connecting Hearts, but our actual adoption placement came through a different agency. Even though we used a different agency for placement, we have had our home studies and most of our concerns addressed by Connecting Hearts. Adoption can be a very stressful, expensive, and trying experience, so you want true professionals with empathy, experience, and that place value on providing a good customer experience.
Connecting Hearts has answered our questions quickly and when we had an adoption failure ( I don't like the other term that is preferred) we were shown empathy and kindness. Our home studies have been flexible and Kathleen has been a joy to have come in to our home. Home studies can feel a bit intrusive, but Kathleen has a way of making you feel comfortable.
I cannot recommend Amy, Kathleen, and Connecting Hearts enough.

I cannot say enough good things about Amy and Connecting Hearts! If you are looking for a Home Study provider, you won’t go wrong with using Amy and her team. Amy’s knowledge, honesty and extremely quick replies were so helpful to us. She truly cares about her families and we could not have gotten through this journey without her!
