Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

This was our second home study process and our experience with Amy and her team has been a positive 180 from our first go-around. She is responsive and efficient, and our on-site visits were pleasant and easy. Amy also connected us with a consultant to help navigate through the foster care system, which has been an invaluable resource.

Amy and her staff are the best. They know their job and they get it done quick and correct. Our Homestudy was seen by several agencies and they all were very impressed with how well it was written. Very detailed with nothing left off. Even with all of the information needed, my wife and I never stressed. The told us exactly what we needed and worked around our schedule. They were even out as late as 8pm because it was good for us. If you need a Homestudy done , my recommendation is Connecting Hearts and Amy Imber. Our adoption is final and thank you for making it as easy as possible.

I cannot say enough on the efficiency, professionalism and compassion that Amy and her office gives. The timeline of their reports, appointments and responses is absolutely amazing. Amy provided the homestudy and post-placement interviews for our adoption. I would recommend her to my closest friends and family. Thank you Connecting Hearts for helping us with our adoption and making our family complete.

Amy @ Connecting Hearts has been absolutely amazing! She was always available to assist us through our home study and post-adoption questions. She is extremely knowledgeable and informative and her suggestions and advice have been of tremendous help. She was also very honest and entrusting. She guided us through the home study process and made it easy to process each step along away. We started our home study process early February 2021. Our home study was completed March 11 and we adopted our first child July 1. My wife and I highly recommend Amy and connecting hearts for your home study and adoption efforts! Our advice is reach out to Amy, get your list of home study objectives, stay laser focused and get them done ASAP!
