Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy and her entire staff are amazing! Our homestudy went smoothly and without a single hitch. Amy herself did our homestudy and made us feel so comfortable throughout the process. She is extremely knowledgeable and gives wonderful guidance on the next steps and recommendations. We matched and placed within eight months after our homestudy through an agency that Amy had sent us the case for. Highly highly recommend!!!

We can not recommend Connecting Hearts Adoption Services enough. When we started our adoption journey, we had no idea what we were doing or what we needed . After our first meeting with Amy we knew right away we were in the perfect hands to complete our home study and guide us on our journey. She is extremely organized and was available any time we had questions or needed assistance. With the help of Connecting Hearts we have our perfect baby who just turned one.

Homestudy completed in one week. I wanted an expedited study and I could not be more happy with Amy and Judy. I tried contacting a lot of agencies before choosing Connecting Hearts and nobody was even close to being as responsive as Amy by phone and email. She may be the most responsive person in the entire adoption field. Worth every penny.
