Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

If you need a home study done, I highly recommend Connecting Hearts. From the moment I reached out Amy was quick to respond and answer any questions we had. The easy to follow 1-2-3 step by step helped to keep it us organized and make sure we had everything we needed for our home study. On the day of our home study visit Amy put us right at ease and talked with us through many aspects of the process and it was so helpful. We are so thankful for Amy's help and excited to be moving on to next steps in our journey.

Just to update, it has now been 4 1/2 years since Amy helped us bring our son into our family. She has continued to support us. We are very grateful Amy is in our lives forever!

Connecting Hearts completed both of our childrens home studies. For our first, they were extremely open and clear on what to expect providing us with great guidance as we dove in. For our second adoption, it was a welcome face to a familiar process. We continue to recommend Connecting Hearts to all of our friends and family. There is no one else we would dream of embarking on this journey with. They are simply the best.

I found Amy at around 430 on a Friday and she immediately called me after receiving my email. I was blown away by the quick response and immediately got to work on our homestudy. We had to push back our homestudy due to Covid a little bit, but Amy was more than accommodating. She guided us through every question and asked us about every preference on our sheet to ensure we knew how things would happen choosing or not choosing something. Amy will be your biggest cheerleader, even support you and your times of fundraising should you need to go that route, our home said he will need to be renewed at the beginning of the year and honestly I just look forward to seeing Amy if we have to make it to that point before matching. 100% recommend Connecting Hearts!
