Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We could never say thank you enough. What an amazing experience we had with Amy and connecting hearts. Not only did she help us through the entire adoption process once, but she did it twice. Every meeting with Amy both pre and post adoption was wonderful, thanks to her compassion, empathy, and professionalism.

We had three incredible experiences working with Amy! Our first trip down the adoption path was completely new to us, and initially felt overwhelmed by the massive amounts of paperwork that it required! Amy was great to talk us thru everything, and was incredibly patient with our multitude of questions.
Just over a year after our son was born, we got the call that our BM was expecting again…IN TWO MONTHS!!! Thanks to her wealth of knowledge and experience, she was able to expedite our second home study.
Cut to two plus years later, and we got that call again!
DON’T FRET ABOUT YOUR HOME VISIT!! She’s there to get to know you; she’s not there to judge how immaculate, or not, that you keep your home.
It’s an incredibly inclusive company, and I highly recommend to anyone I know that is seeking adoption!

Our experience with Amy & Susan at Connecting Hearts was & continues to be the easiest, least tumultuous & MOST transparent part of our adoption journey. From the website which lays out the process & financial investment, to the speed of Amy’s responses to questions & concerns - we were able to complete our home study so swiftly that everything else just fell into place. Amy has also created a community of families, hopeful to adopt & who have adopted which continues to be a resource to our family with great information & helps connect us with other adoptive families to learn from & we believe be even better parents.
