Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy is hands down the most professional, caring, knowledgeable, supportive and funny person to support u all the way thru the adoption process. No matter what happens during the process, she is there for you and will support you thru finalization (successful adoption). I would never consider working with (or hiring) anybody else but Amy when wanting to start growing a family. Amy thank you for all you do for so many of us in making dreams come true. Susan and Amy at Connecting Hearts were an enormous help during our adoption journey. We were lost at the beginning, and they provided incredibly helpful information, relevant classes, and answered our questions. Susan came to our home and gave us a real understanding of what to expect during the process. And they recommended some fantastic people to work with along the way! I cant say enough wonderful things about Amy and her team! They love what they do and it shows in every little detail! Kathleen was a joy to work with for our home study and has become a friend and we feel so blessed to have met her and have her along with us during our adoption journey! Amy Imber and Susan Bishop. I cannot say enough about these two amazing women! My husband and I had lost a couple of situations and were very confused on what directions to take and they just explained everything ins simple way for us to understand and held our hands through the process of getting everything we needed for our home study! Amy referred an awesome affordable attorney to us and Susan made a very nerve racking situation of our home visits so simple and comfortable that we actually enjoyed the process. We truly want to thank them for bringing our family together!

Amy & the Connecting Hearts team were incredible. We couldn’t imagine going through the adoption process without their help and guidance.
