Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy was wonderful to work with for our homestudy! She spelled out each step clearly with what paperwork needed to be completed and we were finished fairly quickly! The homestudy was a breeze - She was so warm and friendly and eased our nerves. Was just like talking to a friend. Cannot recommend Connecting Hearts enough!!

Amy Imber is an amazing person to work for. Amy is thoroughly knowledgeable in the field of adoptions and is supportive to her team in the field. Amy cares about each adoptive family as her own and provides timely responses to questions from families and her team. Amy ensures the home studies and post placement visits are thorough as well as completed promptly. Amy's client's and team are happy all the way around.

If you are looking for someone who is kind and can guide you through the adoption process, I cannot recommend Any and her staff highly enough. She held our hands the entire way through and went out of her way as often as she could. Opening the door to her for our home study was like welcoming a friend for tea. Hire Amy if you have the opportunity to do so.

Our experience with Connecting Hearts has been a great one! Amy has been very helpful and encouraging throughout this whole process. We are still in it, but Connecting Hearts has been a great partner for us in the adoption journey.
We were referred to this organization by someone who had heard about them and it wasn't long after that our journey began with the first home study. Five-stars🌟 all the way!

Amy Imber & Connecting Hearts are simply amazing. My husband and I had contacted Amy a year prior to beginning our offical adoption journey. She was so kind, helpful and all around amazing. When we were ready, we reached out again to Amy & company and she helped us navigate the entire process from start to finish. Amy not only completes your home study but also holds your hand along the way and has wonderful recommendations of consultants and lawyers to work with.
