Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy is so so helpful and definitely knows her stuff! We didn't realize the home study was going to be more of a conversation and she had so much helpful information to offer us regarding all things adoption and preparing for baby. She also continues to make herself available for questions and connections after her work is done. You can tell she's passionate about this work. We definitely recommend!

Working with Amy and the Connecting Hearts team has been incredible. They made the home study process extremely enjoyable. She is always happy to answer any questions thoroughly and is truly there for you every step of the way. She answers phone calls and emails EXTREMELY fast. She truly cares about the families she is working with. My husband and I are so beyond thankful we found her and Connecting Hearts. I would highly recommend working with Connecting Hearts. I was anxious about the homestudy process because so many people told me it would be stressful and a long process. I can honestly say working with Connecting Hearts has made our adoption journey/home study process something we will always look back at as a happy, extremely exciting memory. Will always recommend Connecting Hearts to anyone needing a homestudy!

Connecting Hearts made getting our home study done incredibly easy. When I was getting anxious, Amy was always there and ready to give me updates and help me find ways to ensure things were processing smoothly. Just did our initial home visit and our three post placement visits. She was so kind and extremely informative about the adoption process and better yet, was able to explain it all so well to us first time adoptive parents. We’re sad to be finished working with them, but will most definitely use them again if we adopt another :)

We had an amazing experience with Connecting Hearts. Amy Imber was thorough with our paperwork and walked us through all the steps needed during this process. When we had questions before, during, and after placement of your daughter she was prompt and informative. We can never thank Amy enough for leading us to our sweet daughter.
