Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Connecting Hearts (CH) is the best thing that's happened to my husband and I since starting the adoption process (other than our son of course!). They've gone above and beyond from day 1. They are the reason we have a beautiful family today.
Amy and Alice were quick and efficient while doing our home study. They completed everything very fast, but also took the time to provide us with resources and educational opportunities. They were both available by phone or email to answer any questions while we were learning.
Once we became active, Amy became nothing short of a networking angel of adoption. She connected us with everyone we needed to make our dream happen. She must know everyone in the state! During a disruption (not CH fault), Amy provided the only support we received from professionals in the industry.
CH also has an online community for its families to share resources and build relationships with other Florida adoption families. This group is run by Amy and is inclusive of all types of families and backgrounds. I love it and have made some great connections through it.

Overall, we were VERY happy with Connecting Hearts Adoption Services. We found Amy and her team to be responsive, empathetic, and trustworthy. They also were very understanding of our unique situation and very open to diversity. I would highly recommend them for the home study process!

From start to finish. Connecting hearts went above and beyond. They answered my question, responded to my late night panic emails, they rubbed my back and wiped my tears. Amy is great! She made my dreams come true. Our baby girl came home 2 days ago.
