Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy was absolutely amazing to work with! We needed a home study done quickly and she was on it! Instructions were very clear and her system helped us to stay organized with all that is needed. Also super quick to respond and very easy to communicate with.

We are currently going through the adoption process. As soon as I called Amy they jumped into action to help us. They have walked us through every step and have made the experience as pleasant as possible. They made sure we understood the home study process and they answer all of our questions promptly. Amy came highly recommended to us, and we are so glad that someone told us about her and her outstanding work. We highly recommend this agency, Amy, and Melissa. We are so thankful for them.

We highly recommend Connecting Hearts! The home study process was so easy to follow on the website and Amy had great communication and follow through. We were provided with a list of resources that led us quickly to our daughter! We are so happy to have been “connected” with Connecting Hearts!

Amy and the entire Connecting Hearts Adoption team are PHENOMENAL. From our initial adoption conversations with Amy all the way through the final post placement home study, Amy was professional, knowledgeable and made us feel “at ease” during the entire process. She answered all of our questions and provided us with MANY valuable resources that ultimately led to us bringing home our beautiful baby girl. I’ll never forget Amy personally reaching out to us in tears from excitement, the night that we found out that we had been chosen by a birth mother. The Connecting Hearts Adoption team made our dreams come true!!
