Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Highly recommend Connecting Hearts! Amy was fantastic to work with and went out of her way to help our family get our home study completed quickly as we were limited in the time we had. She is professional and very personable and I can’t say enough about how much we appreciate her.

In the beginning they were great, however I wasn’t pleased at how they handle sometimes difficult situations. I think background stuff should be ran prior to them taking your money, if anything comes up they refuse to finish and you are out your money. I know rules are rules but some of this is subjective and that’s just not ok. This process is expensive enough without entities your supposed to be able to trust not finishing and taking your hard earned money. In the end, we were matched with the most beautiful little baby boy by another agency who did there job start to finish!

One of the best experiences of my life! I can honestly say Amy and Kathleen with connecting hearts were awesome. I am a Nurse Practitioner and have been a foster parent for 5 years, I have had numerous interactions with the adoption world. This year I had the opportunity to adopt privately, my attorney recommended Connecting Hearts and they made the experience comfortable and enjoyable. I would not hesitate to recommend them to family or friends!

We were referred to Connecting Hearts for our Home Study and all our Post Placement visits by our Adoption Attorney. From initial consult call to final report for post placement Amy and Kathleen were on top of everything at all times. Always available, punctual and treated us with love and kindness. Amy was great with initial consult, intake packet and kept us organized with the mounds of documents that are required for adoption. Kathleen (social worker) from Connecting Hearts took care of Home Study and all Post Placement Visits. We could not have asked for a better experience with her. Punctual, always available and had such a positive loving outlook.
When we broke down the total cost of our adoption, the fees for Connecting Hearts were a very small percentage. You get what you pay for and Amy and Kathleen were definitely worth it as they always had a high standard of service.
Overall we were 100% satisfied from start to finish. Highly recommend Connecting Hearts to be your choice when it comes to Adoption. We will only use them in the future.
