Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy and Judy were amazing through our home study period! Their professionalism is unmatched and they made the process so easy for us! When Judy came to our home for the final part of our home study, she was so warm and caring and it made it seem like we were old friends just catching up! We started our process of adoption not knowing much about the process. Our first step was choosing connecting hearts for our homestudy due to their reputation and we were not disappointed. Ms Amy helped us every step of the way and we are now parents of a beautiful baby boy. One thing about Ms Amy is that she will be honest and bluntly so and we appreciated that especially in this process where you need someone with expertise and knowledge. There is a proverb that says “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” - This process can be scary, stressful, and at times disappointing. There is alot at stake - the destiny of a child, the welfare of the birth parents and baby, the eager hearts of people who long to be parents and provide a loving home, and there is a financial risk so why not have people on your side that can share wise advice. We recommend Connecting Hearts so much that we are looking forward to working with them again in the near future.
