Requirements to become a foster parent

Utah families receive monthly foster care payments to help offset the costs of raising a child. This stipend is meant for room and board, clothing, and related expenses.

The amount you receive varies based on a child's age and needs. Children that require more attention and care have slightly higher rates.

Foster youth have their medical and dental needs covered through Medicaid. This insurance should be enough for any doctor's visits, therapy sessions, dental exams, etc. Foster children also qualify for free school lunches.

Utah parents can take advantage of mentorship programs that allow them to learn from more experienced foster families. It's an excellent way to connect with others and build a support network. Plus, you'll have someone else to turn to if you have questions.

Utah Kids Belong has an app that gives foster parents access to special discounts from foster-friendly businesses. It's also an easy way to connect with faith-based communities, which may offer other types of support.

I am a birth mother who was clear about wanting an open adoption. I was told every thing I needed to hear but no needed info. 8 years after my adoption I still am patiently waiting for consistent contact with my children. When you're young they manipulate bad situations to their advantage. Heart to heart is poor about communication and really could care less after papers are signed and money is in the bank. BEWARE!

We had a horrible experience with Heart to Heart just a few weeks ago. We flew to Utah for a failed adoption, but that was not the worst part. We didn't see a single human being till my husband went to the hospital. We only received phone calls and text messages from our contact at Heart to Heart through our time in Utah telling us to stay at the hotel and not come to the hospital once they saw that the birth mom was changing her mind. We never got to meet our birth mom or child. We were even asked to stay the night that things might look different in the morning, but received no information or phone calls the next day on what to do. My husband and I both felt like this was possibly a scam so he drove to the hospital and waited to speak to a case worker before we left town. No one offered us an apologies or help on getting home. I received a text message two days later asking if we got home safely. A text message??? I text when I am seeing if someone wants to meet for dinner NOT about us losing a child! Later my husband calls the agency to speak about our experience and the CEO tells him that she is "pissed" at the birth mom for not signing the paperwork. Not professional at all Also, I want to mention that this agency and the hospital released this birth mom and family to a homeless shelter. A newborn started her life in a homeless shelter.

Unfortunately, I have never felt or been treated so poorly in my life than from Heart to Heart Adoptions.

We went there about 3 years ago and loved it from the beginning, we completed every aspect of the starting phases of adoption. Once everything was complete we were put on the waiting list.

Long story short, in an e-mail that was not intended to go us, we were called crazy and made fun of. Yes, the staff used our delicate situation and took it as an opportunity to poke fun at us.

I never received an apology besides a lousy e-mail that you know was only sent out of guilt and not sincerity. It has been 3 years and I still would not recommend anyone to use this unheated company. Although, maybe they have learned to treat people going through an already emotional process better.

We adopted our son through H2H a little over 3 years ago. From the moment we contacted them, they were helpful with all of our questions & never made us feel like we were bothering them when we called. More importantly, when our son was born, they treated his birth mom with so much respect & truly cared about her & her well being. We now have a great open relationship with her! We can't thank H2H & their staff for all they did for us, for our son & for his birth mother.

I've been to Heart To Heart Adoptions several times to find out about how the adoption process works. The girls who work there are really nice and professional. They also know their stuff. Donna has helped me out a ton. Thanks.
