Requirements to become a foster parent
Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.
It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.
The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.
Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

As a birth mother who placed with this agency I can say they have been supportive and helpful in every way, they care about your feelings, they give you enough time to make a decision, they never rush you or get frustrated or aggressive, Jennifer was my adoption agent and she has always been supportive and shows care to me, they don’t only care about the adoptive family but they also care about the birth mothers feelings which is rare with most adoption agencies. They put everyone’s feelings into consideration. I highly suggest to work with them if you’re a birth mother looking to place.

Our family’s experience with Texas Adoption Center was incredible from start to finish. Stacey, Lindsay, Kenna, Kaitlyn, and the entire TAC team supported us as we waited to match with an expectant mother, and provided loving, ethical support to both us and our son’s biological parents. Stacey and Lindsay kept the lines of communication open for us around the clock as we hoped to match with an expectant family, and respected our expectant mother’s boundaries and wishes at every step of the adoption process. We know the critical role TAC played in making sure everyone was loved and supported in this difficult, beautiful, emotional process. Our family cannot recommend TAC enough and hope to adopt again with them!

We are beyond grateful to everyone at Texas Adoption Center helping us with our second adoption. Kaitlyn, Stacey, Jennifer and Kenna were amazing to work with, always so kind, helpful and professional. They truly care about expectant parents and offered so much support to our son's birth mom before and after she placed her baby. If we adopt again we will use TAC and highly recommend them to other hopeful adoptive families!

Texas Adoption Center did our home study, and by luck, they were our placement agency when we were matched through another agency since the baby was born in Texas. The team was so supportive, informative, kind and completely there for us at all hours. We had a stork drop which was thrilling, but a lot of information all at once, and we were so lucky to have TAC by our side making it easy to understand and non-stressful. We couldn't have asked for a better adoption. It'll be a year this week from that fateful call and we couldn't be happier with the experience and our baby - so we've decided to do it all over again!

How do you adequately express how thankful you are for a life changing experience? Texas Adoption Center has made our family complete! We came to Texas Adoption Center broken, and Kaitlyn listened to us. She took such good care of our hearts.... and then came our son! Our birth mother is so precious to us, forever a part of our family. Our son will always know how much she loves him. How hard this decision was for her, how she will always be there for him as he grows. I love everyone at Texas Adoption Center! Thank you for not only being here for us, but for being there for her! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
