Our Foster Care program provides boys and girls ages 4–17 with emotional or behavioral difficulties an opportunity to live within the community in the naturally therapeutic environment of a family. Our foster parents are trained, supervised, and supported by the Laurel Heights Specialized Foster Care Treatment Team.
Family consultants work with the foster family, birth parents, case managers, and the child to ensure that therapeutic, academic, social, and medical needs are met. Family consultants also provide 24-hour on-call support and work closely with case managers and birth families to support family reunification goals.

Requirements to become a foster parent
The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.
Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.
There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.

Don't let your loved one go here if you truly want them to get help. My son was there for 2.5 months and received absolutely zero help. The counselors and doctor are completely incompetent and have no idea what they are talking about or doing. All week long the counselor would call me about his aggressive behaviors and then come Tuesday every week they would call me for clinical review and tell me he was great, hadn't shown any aggression and they wanted to discharge him. They continually gave false information and contradicted themselves and each other. My son left there no better than when he went in. The discharge plan and safety plan were a joke. If you feel like throwing away thousands of dollars for people to not take care of your child, feel free to send them here. But know that my child starved himself for the entire time he was there, losing over 20 lbs and they allowed it.

This page forces you to at least give one star to comment when they dont deserve any. George Williams is a complete piece of work and probably should be impatient himself. My family member was admitted here a few months ago by his abusive father and concubine. Obviously staff at Laurel Heights has no training to recognize children suffering from abuse. it's also obvious they have little to no training to diagnose mental illness. I could not be more appalled by the behavior of George Williams and the councilors. He was abusive to my daughter and highly unprofessional. George states he used to work for the court, yet is unable to comprehend court orders, or follow them. Even after an attorney calls and explains them. George runs the place like Gitmo and should be relieved of duty! Dishonorably!

One of the staff members at this facility told my daughter that she and her mother are crack heads. He was not reprimanded for this. My daughter went there with clothes that they lost because the washer and dryer on her unit was broken and I have been fighting them for 6 months to replace the clothes. She now has 2 pairs of underwear and a wonderful bunch of left behind clothes that are not at all what she would generally wear. I have fought and fought to get my daughter the treatment that she NEEDS. She was diagnosed bipolar extreme manic and has received very little to no help at this facility. They said parents drop their kids and just leave them. Why would any one want to put their kids in a joke facility like this? I paid almost 600 to get a rental car to come down there and get my daughter for a weekend visit and they have turned around and decided to release her not even 2 weeks later like I can afford a rental again so soon and all to replace all of her clothes. People use your voices. Shut this place down. Staff are mean.... Therapy is a joke and when they lose things they do not replace them. I would give this place no stars if I could.

I wouldn’t rate this place even 1 star. It was a traumatic experience for my daughter and made her worse! She went for help and came out traumatized. The staff was not nice , very rude! My child was always getting hit and not protected ! Please do not send your child here !!! If I’d known I would’ve looked into other options!!!
