Our Foster Care program provides boys and girls ages 4–17 with emotional or behavioral difficulties an opportunity to live within the community in the naturally therapeutic environment of a family. Our foster parents are trained, supervised, and supported by the Laurel Heights Specialized Foster Care Treatment Team.
Family consultants work with the foster family, birth parents, case managers, and the child to ensure that therapeutic, academic, social, and medical needs are met. Family consultants also provide 24-hour on-call support and work closely with case managers and birth families to support family reunification goals.

Requirements to become a foster parent
The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.
Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.
There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.

I lived here from 1999-2006 maybe 07 it’s all a blur at this point. From unit 2 to 7 south ... I have dreams and nightmares of the PRN of Thorazine I used to receive there. But I must confess. I have great memories here too. Ms Deborah the old gym teacher made my first ever costume for Star Wars when I arrived. On unit 5 there was this cool guy named Mr. Cedric who was younger and felt more like an uncle then a staff who made it better for me. There was a great kitchen staff Ms B & Mr Tony, made life worth living even if I was doped up on like 15 different pills. Gregory Sterchi was a great lead therapist along side Ms. Liz, I’m 32 now and was there when I was 9-10 years old but it had a huge effect on my life. I want to reach out to the kids there and maybe come talk to them because even though life worked for me I had a lot of crashes because I wasn’t helped or informed of the transition that was ahead. I went from being locked down all day doing soap checks to being on the street on my own. Those kids need to see and hear from someone whose lived there and been restraint like they’re being restraint, whose had a needle of Thorazine to the buttocks; that it gets better later. My wife and I are unable to reach a human being that is willing to let us speak to our child.
Why are children sleeping on floors hopefully you can get your act together and make it into a better experience for helping children instead of hurting them im so confused about the arrangement that you have made for profits you should be ashamed of yourselves lack will lack of help makes children worse hopefully I get my kid back soon

This place is unprofessional and have a lack of communication with patents. I never found out my direct point of contact person for my child. I never spoke with anyone that had any information for me about my child. I do believe this stay was pointless and provided little to no help at all. Which is sad because the situation is a serious matter and to know a facility that deal with trouble children is operating in such an ill manner is unbelievable. This is a very poor place to receive any help for children. They provided me with at least 10 numbers to clinical management, doctors, and case workers but no one return any of my calls and in 2 days my child was telling me to pick them up the next day. Even when I picked my child up all they wanted was to sign papers for release and that was it no continuation of care implemented for the future. Then Destiny one of the staff members tried to inform me of an appointment that I had already set up for my child. I will be filing an grievance. This just show our mental health care system is a failure. I don’t even want to rate them with 1 star because they don’t deserve that.
