Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

The office is very well maintined and kept. They have always been very prompt with my appointments and follow up. The level of professionalism and compassion is like no other place I have been. Marisol at the medical front desk is an absolute angel! She is caring and truly helps however she can. She makes coming to Two spirits an absolutely amazing experience.

This facility is full of love and medical professionals who want to help without judgement and care about making everyone feel accepted. I have been coming here since last year and will not go anywhere else. Marisol thank you for being amazing and a gem of a human being. I highly recommend Two spirits to everyone!

People here are amazing! Ken has always taken his time to make sure I was taken care of. He’s went out of his way to get treatment for my partner and has saved her life. I am forever greatful for this place!

If will be 1 year on April 20th 2019 since I took my first HRT prescription. So, I though I would write a review.

Everything has been great and I'm please with how everything has gone at Two Spirit. The staff is warm and welcoming. Marisol…you’re the bomb girl and my ambassador of HRT :-). The process from obtaining my HRT letter, first dosage, and subsequent followups has overall been a seamless process.

My only complaint is that it can be hard, at times, to get someone on the phone. You can leave a VM for someone to call back. However, if I'm on a conf. during the business day it can be hard to answer a callback when I don’t know the time someone may call. I could see others at work and not able to answer their phone on demand having the same issue. There are just some things where voice is much easier than e-mailing staff.

I would have given 4.5 stars, not 4, if given the option.

Based on my experience, I would recommend Two Spirit to another transgender female.

A little hard to begin communication with, but best resources in town and the most compassionate staff in central florida. It's still growing, and with that comes growing pains, but you can't get better than Two-Spirit if you are a part of the LGBT+ community. Dr. Vargas in medical is who I see and she is phenomenal. The mental health staff are the best I've experienced and I've shopped around. Don't take my word for it, come in and experience it for yourself.

I would like to provide this rating on behalf of my friend whose nonbinary child saw a therapist here for 4 months up until today, 4/2/2019.

Throughout the ENTIRE four months, the therapist misgendered the child. She was corrected and talked to multiple times and even recieved sensitivity training, yet she continued to misgender them.

In the closing session, she was defensive and admitted to no wrongdoing. She said that nobody else has had a problem with her because pronouns haven't mattered that much. REALLY? You are a therapist for transgender people and you're going to say pronouns don't matter? Even after sensitivity training and various forms of feedback? That is highly inconsiderate and unprofessional.

Even in that last session when when my friend and their child were explaining the issues, she STILL proceeded to misgender the kid. They had to walk out of the closing session after about 12 minutes. This lack of basic respect and total disregard for feedback makes this therapist unfit to serve the trans community.

The rest of management catered to the feelings of the therapist in this instance. They made excuses. They said that they didn't want to make her feel bad. They said she learned her lesson. There seems to be no accountability whatsoever and that just breaks my heart, because I've seen how much my friend has been hurt by this. I've seen how much my friend's child has been hurt by this. Based on other stories I've heard from those I know, there seems to be a general lack of accountability for any wrongdoing.

I caution all trans people who are considering going here, and I urge nonbinary people in particular to definitely NOT go here. This organization is hiring people that actively harm trans people.
