Requirements to become a foster parent
Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.
It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.
The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.
Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

My husband and I are so grateful to have had the expertise and support from TAC for our first adoption. The entire team is truly there for you every step of the way. If there was ever a question that we had during our match, we knew that the team had already thought of it before we did and were working toward ways to support us and our expectant mother. We had the pleasure of working with both Traci and Chelsey. They have such a gift of love in adoption. Both specialists have become part of our family-they are so personable but also professional. The ways they went above and beyond for our family during our match and following placement is unforgettable for us and we have so much appreciation for them! We could write an entire book on how this team has supported us and how grateful we are for them. Thank you to all the staff who supported us on our journey. We cannot recommend TAC enough!

I don't think I'll ever be able to put into words how amazing and incredible the entire TAC agency is!
We were recommended to work with Texas Adoption Center after a year into our adoption journey and having experienced a horrible disruptive placement with a previous agency. After reading other people's experiences here on the reviews and speaking with Kaitlyn, I just knew in my heart this was where we were supposed to be. When we became active, Stacey was so incredible with any questions and support needed the entire process, I loved how much they cared for the expectant moms while advocated for us too. After a short six months, we were holding our miracle baby girl!
So grateful we are for this agency and cannot recommend them enough! The next time we adopt, we will be working with TAC!

I’m so thankful for this agency, I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of 2023 and didn’t know what I was going to do so I reached out to Texas adoption agency and they got me in contact with Amanda. She was so sweet and helped me figure out if this option was right for me. We interviewed couples together and I knew immediately what family I wanted to choose. And I am so happy with my decision , my son was born July 26th 2023 & I spent so much time with my adoptive family by the time that it was time for me to sign the paper I knew for sure this was for the best. I have the best adoptive parents that let me see my baby whenever I want and I love them so much. And I love Amanda so much we have gained the best relationship and they did everything they could to make me comfortable.

I found out I was pregnant early 2021 and decided to place my son for adoption. I could not have done it without the support of Abby and Jennifer Wulf l, that was absolutely one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do but the support my husband and I received from the agency was amazing. Before the whole process has started I had heard so many adoption horror stories but they could not be more wrong, the family my son lives with is just amazing I could not be more grateful that we were matched with them. I would highly recommend any expectant mother having to make the impossible decision to put their baby up for adoption to put their trust in this organization, Texas Adoption Center helped me change my life and my sons life for the better. To any expectant mother who might be reading this I support you, I acknowledge your pain and my heart goes out to you, you are an amazing mother. We had a great experience with TAC. They provided a lot of support through a process that is often quite emotional and difficult. We were able to finalize our adoption about 1 yr after first talking to them, having our baby placed with us only about 5mos after being active on their list. Highly recommend and we'd do it all over again for sure with TAC!
