If you are a birth mother or birth father, we are here to help you and your baby completely free of charge, whether you are raising your child yourself or placing your child for adoption.

Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care in Pennsylvania. Foster parents for children in need must:
- Be a minimum of 21 years old
- Pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting
- Have time and energy to devote to fostering
- Live in a safe and healthy environment
- Prove good health through a medical examination/physical
- Maintain financial stability
- Clear all home safety requirements
- Complete required pre-service training hours
- Finish the Home Inspection
After fulfilling all requirements during the approval process, licensed foster parents can welcome a foster child into their home. To maintain a valid license, foster parents must also participate in ongoing training each year.
All adults who are living in homes with foster children in Pennsylvania must pass a required criminal background check and fingerprinting. This includes adult children who are family members living at home.
There are other, more detailed requirements for foster homes, such as having a flushing toilet and an operable phone. Prospective foster parents will learn more details during foster parent orientation.
Once you've decided to foster, you can contact a public or private foster agency or the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association. Foster agencies screen and train prospective foster families and ensure applicants are good candidates for foster care.

After many years of trying to start a family we realized that we just wanted to be parents. I guess that was a journey we needed to take in order to give up the dream of getting pregnant but we finally realized that there was more than one way to fulfill that dream. At the time we were overseas in the oil industry so I travelled home alone to see what our options were. Unsure of where to start, I opened the yellow pages to "A" for adoption. The very first entry under the letter A was Adoption Services. God was with me that day in late February. Our first child, a boy, was born just 2 months later. There were lots of crazy things going on with that adoption that moved us from the bottom of the list to the top. He is now 23 years old and our pride and joy. Just 10 months later I was back in the States for a funeral and contacted the agency to see if there was anything I might do while stateside since we hoped to adopt again in the next year. No - I just needed to let them know when we were ready. Another complicated situation moved us to the top of the list again and we became the proud parents of a little girl just a few weeks after I made that call. She is now 22 and blossoming! What I can say about this agency is that they have the best interest of both the birth mom and the adoptive family in mind at all times. They are VERY professional and make sure that every detail is addressed throughout the process. It struck me that they have found the perfect balance between advocating for birth moms and valuing building families.

With Mother's Day being minutes away I thought this would be the perfect time to share how thankful I feel everyday. My husband and I were longing for a child to love and we couldnt have our own children. We knew adoption was the right path for us. We couldn't have asked for a more sincere experience from the moment we began with this agency to this present moment. They have always been there for us and welcomed any questions that we have had along the way. I adopted my child two years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that my husband and I don't say how lucky we are. We had such a wonderful experience that we are currently pursing a second child to give us another wonderful gift as well as granting our child with a sibling. Thank you ASI for making me feel so happy and grateful on Mother's Day and always.

We adopted our two boys through Adoption Services. They are now fine young men. At the time, the adoption process in Pennsylvania was extremely complex and many people told us it would be next to impossible to adopt. Dr, Berger walked us through the entire process and was there from the beginning to the arrival of our sons. He was always caring and willing to answer all our questions and concerns. My wife and I most highly recommend Vince Berger and Adoption Services.

We have 2 beautiful boys thanks to Dr. Berger and his staff at Adoption Services. We were treated so compassionately throughout the entire process. There was no question I couldn't ask. Even when there were a couple bumps in the road, there is nothing I would have wanted or expected the agency to do. I have recommended this agency to anyone who is exploring adoption.
