Adoptive families like you deserve short, accurate wait times and financial protection that keeps your adoption budget safe. We’re the only agency that provides both. Your dream of starting a family can become a reality.

The adoption process is an amazing journey, and it starts right here. We believe you deserve complete support during your adoption from start to finish. That’s why we provide more comprehensive adoption services than other professionals — so that you can feel confident and secure in your adoption.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing your needs. There’s a lot that goes into adoption. If you’re thinking about this journey as a way to start or grow your family, you’ll need a lot of support along the way.

Most professionals specialize in one aspect of the process — they might provide home studies, marketing services, or casework support. The difference with American Adoptions is that we can do it all.

We want you to experience the most comprehensive support that puts you in the position to have a successful adoption process. Because of our large staff size, decades of adoption experience, and high adoption success rates, you can have the adoption experience you deserve.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Start by researching the state requirements for new parents. In Kansas, all foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Maintain financial stability
  • Live in a safe and comfortable home
  • Pass the home inspection
  • Provide enough personal space for a foster child
  • Clear a background check (all adults in the house)
  • Have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle
  • Finish required foster parent training
  • Complete the Home Study Process

Good foster parenting requires your best effort, but not "perfect" parenting. Spend time to learn about the foster care system and the information given to you during training and orientation. Once you have become a licensed foster parent, focus on your foster child's wants, needs, and overall well-being.

To learn more about becoming a foster parent in Kansas, contact your local child-placing agency. These social service agencies are state-approved to match foster children with licensed foster care homes.

Every foster agency provides orientation, where you will receive information about foster care and how to obtain a license. Orientation will help you decide if fostering a child is the right path for you and your family. If you are married or in a relationship, ask yourselves questions before committing to fostering together.

After orientation, your next step is the family assessment process, including the Home Study. A social worker at your local child-placing agency will help you through every step.

My husband and I had an amazing experience with American Adoptions. It took just under 2 months to get set up on their website, and just over 3 months to get matched with our baby girl. Throughout the process they were warm and receptive to our questions, honest with their feedback and input, and very transparent and upfront. We felt extremely supported once we were matched, when interacting with birth parents, and navigating all the emotions and obstacles that come with adopting in general. A lot of people in our area have used American Adoptions and rave about their experience. If you are looking to adopt, we would most certainly recommend checking out this agency. Good luck!!

My husband and I used American Adoptions to adopt our daughter in 2017. We cannot say enough good things about this adoption agency! Everyone we interacted with was caring, understanding and informative. They all truly wanted to find the best match for us and our daughter's birth parents. From the time we first contacted American Adoptions to holding our daughter in our arms was only 5 months. They walked us through each step of the process and all our emails and phone calls were answered within hours of sending them. However, if you are struggling with the financial costs of adoption, this agency may not be for you. Adopting through them is expensive, partly because they are advertising all over the US so you are paying to get your profile out to lots of birth moms. For us, it was more than worth it and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Our daughter will be one in a couple weeks and we can't imagine life without her. If you can afford it, American Adoptions is definitely the agency to choose.

After looking at many agencies we decided on AA and we are so happy we did! We used them for 2 adoptions and the process could not have gone better both times! The specialist we worked with are so very knowledgeable. They are true professional while also being compassionate and always available to talk. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

We adopted our daughter through American in 2016 and would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone pursuing domestic infant adoption. They are professional, personable, ethical and most importantly respectful and compassionate to both the adoptive parents and to birthparents.

We expanded our family using American Adoptions both in 2011 and 2014. They were supporting and caring individuals who helped us through each step of the process. The counseling they provided both for the birth mothers as well as the adoptive family is amazing. We recommend them to friends who are beginning the adoption process again and again.
