Requirements to become a foster parent
Start by researching the state requirements for new parents. In Kansas, all foster parents must:
- Be 21 years or older
- Maintain financial stability
- Live in a safe and comfortable home
- Pass the home inspection
- Provide enough personal space for a foster child
- Clear a background check (all adults in the house)
- Have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle
- Finish required foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study Process
Good foster parenting requires your best effort, but not "perfect" parenting. Spend time to learn about the foster care system and the information given to you during training and orientation. Once you have become a licensed foster parent, focus on your foster child's wants, needs, and overall well-being.

Every foster agency provides orientation, where you will receive information about foster care and how to obtain a license. These people make you feel like family, They treat your case and well being with the upmost of care and stay with you every step. They are not pushy or treat you like just everyday work, I felt so well taken care from start to finish. If you choose adoption or looking to adopt i 100% recommend this agency you will not regret it!

American Adoptions was the best agency we worked with. They were professional in every sense of the word but were also compassionate and understanding when we were anxious. They are worth every cent that we invested in helping us have our baby, who means everything to us. We would definitely use them for a second adoption. We also recommended them to our friends. We expanded our family through American Adoptions in 2015. Our son is now two and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. We had three biological children and knew we would always adopt as well. American Adoptions was so helpful throughout the entire process, from beginning and even until today. The counseling and preparation they provided for both the birth mom and adoptive family is amazing. We know we could not have done this whole process without them. We adopted through American Adoptions and had a wonderful experience! They were so easy to work with. They coached us through the entire process, and everything went very smoothly. We chose them because they are one of the largest agencies, give great emotional support to the birth mothers, and the 'match' time was short compared to other agencies. We highly recommend. We love our daughter so much and can't imagine life without her!
