Adoptive families like you deserve short, accurate wait times and financial protection that keeps your adoption budget safe. We’re the only agency that provides both. Your dream of starting a family can become a reality.

The adoption process is an amazing journey, and it starts right here. We believe you deserve complete support during your adoption from start to finish. That’s why we provide more comprehensive adoption services than other professionals — so that you can feel confident and secure in your adoption.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing your needs. There’s a lot that goes into adoption. If you’re thinking about this journey as a way to start or grow your family, you’ll need a lot of support along the way.

Most professionals specialize in one aspect of the process — they might provide home studies, marketing services, or casework support. The difference with American Adoptions is that we can do it all.

We want you to experience the most comprehensive support that puts you in the position to have a successful adoption process. Because of our large staff size, decades of adoption experience, and high adoption success rates, you can have the adoption experience you deserve.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Start by researching the state requirements for new parents. In Kansas, all foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Maintain financial stability
  • Live in a safe and comfortable home
  • Pass the home inspection
  • Provide enough personal space for a foster child
  • Clear a background check (all adults in the house)
  • Have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle
  • Finish required foster parent training
  • Complete the Home Study Process

Good foster parenting requires your best effort, but not "perfect" parenting. Spend time to learn about the foster care system and the information given to you during training and orientation. Once you have become a licensed foster parent, focus on your foster child's wants, needs, and overall well-being.

To learn more about becoming a foster parent in Kansas, contact your local child-placing agency. These social service agencies are state-approved to match foster children with licensed foster care homes.

Every foster agency provides orientation, where you will receive information about foster care and how to obtain a license. Orientation will help you decide if fostering a child is the right path for you and your family. If you are married or in a relationship, ask yourselves questions before committing to fostering together.

After orientation, your next step is the family assessment process, including the Home Study. A social worker at your local child-placing agency will help you through every step.

American Adoptions is simply amazing. My wife and I adopted our beautiful son at the end of 2021 with this agency. We feel like the staff at American Adoptions are part of our family. They are wonderfully supportive, knowledgeable, and professional. We had a long road to adoption, one that included a move across the world, but every step of the way we were in good hands with American Adoptions. Every member of the agency made our journey special. We would happily adopt through American Adoptions in the future. Thank you!

Our experience with American Adoptions has been nothing short of exceptional. My husband and I adopted our son at the end of 2021, but our journey with them began almost three years prior. The staff are amazing—everyone we have worked with has been incredibly professional, knowledgeable, caring, respectful and empathetic. We felt so supported throughout the entire process. Our adoptive family specialist was on the phone with us at 3am when we were experiencing our first disruption at the hospital, she was on the phone with us over a holiday weekend when an expectant mom we were matched with started expressing reservations about her adoption plan, she and the birth parent specialist were both on the phone with us all weekend when that match ultimately disrupted at the hospital, as well. We are so thankful for the risk-sharing program/disruption insurance, as it allowed us to proceed with our adoption journey after each disruption without having to pause to recover any financial losses. And once we had our son, it was such a relief to know that the paperwork/legal aspects of the adoption were being handled by American Adoptions and we could just enjoy being new parents. We would recommend American Adoptions without reservations and would work with them again in a heartbeat!

Let me begin by saying we just completed our second adoption and now have experience working with five different agencies on various parts of the process. American Adoptions was by far the worst decision we made on our adoption journey. From the costs, lack of communication, and misleading information, I deeply regret the money we sunk into trying to work with them. We had an active profile from October 2020 through January 2022 and never once had a potential match. Initially, we set our budget at the average cost of an adoption, per AA. It wasn't until the fourth time we requested feedback from the agency that we were told our budget was now about $10K too low due to inflation. Four times! To make matters more frustrating, we received patronizing updates about a video series AA was developing and passive aggressive emails from their staff. Please learn from the time, money, and effort we wasted working with AA and find any other agency.

I have soooo much to say but I'm going to try to keep it short and sweet...

My journey with American Adoptions was absolutely amazing and beyond what I could've ever imagined. Jenna was my counselor and she did the best job of ALWAYS making me feel comfortable and supported throughout my entire pregnancy, and even after... She was always just a phone call or text away, no matter what I needed. This time can feel very lonely and scary for most of us and Jenna's support made a huge positive impact on me every day. When I first contacted the agency, I honestly had no idea how open adoption worked. I asked SO many questions and felt very needy...but they helped me learn about, navigate through, and trust this process- without any judgement or pressure. I was always reminded that this is my journey, and that they support any decision I make... it made me feel really good. I followed through with my decision and matched with the most genuinely spectacular family to raise my son, and I would not have it any other way. His smile says it all. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every one at American Adoptions who was a part of my journey... Thank you for supporting me during the hardest, but also the most beautiful time of my life.

I gave Birth January 22, 2021. I had the privilege of talking to Shannon. She made everything so easy, once I got past just being honest, it was easier from there. I love the family I picked for the little one I gave birth to. American adoptions made what I thought couldn't be possible, possible. For anyone making this tough decision, I hope seeing this, eases your mind. Stay strong mama. You got this❤
