Adoption by Shepherd Care (ASC) was founded in 1980 and is currently the oldest Florida-based international & Domestic adoption agency assisting Expectant Parents facing unplanned pregnancies, Orphans in need of a Forever Family and Prospective Adoptive Families desiring to become parents through adoption.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We are from Canada and we adopted through ASC. The staff at the agency was always helpful and always encouraged us to ask any questions we had! Kira is such a sweet person to work with and she did a wonderful job of helping us through some of the process. Terri is so knowledgeable about the adoption process and was also very helpful in getting us onto the active waiting list and working with us throughout the whole process. We feel blessed to have had ASC help us on our journey!

We have been in touch with Claudia and never seen someone so comitted to her job. She puts her heart on what she is doing and I can see how committed she is. Her enthusiasm and knowledge brings you so much confidence on what they do. We will continue to support them and we pray for the good labor they do.

We will continue to be grateful to Adoption by Shepherd care for their excellent service to family. Terri and her team were amazing through out the process. We can never forget they effort they made to ensure that we have a wonderful stay in Hollywood, FL.

I highly reccomend ASC. The entire staff has been great but Heidi in particular has helped and guided my husband and I through the process making our dream of becoming parents that much closer!

We had a really really good experience with Adoption by Shepherd Care! We expected the process would be long and heartbreaking but it wasn’t. Heidi made us feel comfortable every step of the way. She kept in contact with us and we never felt ignored. What was even more important to us was how well the agency treated our sons birth mother. They treated her with respect and dignity and she had the counseling and support SHE needed through this process. Our son is AMAZING and has made our family complete!
