Prospective adoptive parents can expect our dedicated professionals to guide them through the process of exploring adoption, fulfilling the requirements necessary for adoption, and beginning their adoption search. Our experienced staff will help you every step of the way.
We understand that many couples cannot conceive a child for medical or other reasons. We also appreciate there are single individuals who are exploring adoption services. Each social worker is highly trained and experienced in assisting prospective adoptive parents, providing counseling, adoption education, and placement services. We are prepared to meet your adoption needs in a personal, compassionate, and professional manner.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Understanding the licensing requirements is the first step, as they vary by state. In Maryland, potential foster parents must meet the following criteria:
- 21 years of age or older
- Live in a safe home, either a house or an apartment
- Undergo a criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Remain financially stable
- Able to support a child financially
- Undergo a medical examination
- Attend a medical reexamination every two years
- Provide three references
- Attend necessary parent training/education courses
- A minimum of two home visits by an approval worker
- Child support clearance
- No use of physical punishment allowed
- Receive a fire inspection and health clearance from local departments
The foster care agency you work with will help you to meet these qualifications. They answer your questions, provide parent education training, conduct home visits, and more. As such, they'll be your first point of contact as you prepare for your first placement.
Remember that it will take time to go through the approval process. The home study takes the longest, consisting of lots of paperwork, interviews, inspections, etc. However, you'll be a licensed foster parent in Maryland when it's over.

Adoption Makes Family is a great agency that really cares about children in need of a family. Dr. Kirschner does a great job and was very supportive throughout the adoption process.

Our experience with AMF was horrendous. Dr. Kirschner is a horror to work with. We had significant difficulties in our last home study, which was handled very poorly, documents were lost and the process was delayed. Seems his interest was being paid and not in supporting us in our journey. We ended up terminating our relationship with him and seeking services from another reputable agency.

We found Dr. Kirschner and Adoption Makes Family thorough friends that had used their services previously. When we first met Dr. Kirschner, and Adoption Makes Family, we knew we had found the agency for us. They were sincere, thoughtful, and considered all of our needs as we went through the process. They went above and beyond during the entire adoption, which can be uncertain to say the least and provided a experienced level of customer service that something as important as an adoption requires. They were available at all hours of the day and night and really made us feel special at every point. We highly recommend using Adoption Makes Family and their resources. We are forever changed because of what they did for us.

When we sat down to choose an adoption agency, like many other families, we had no idea what to expect. Choosing Adoption Makes Family was such a rewarding experience and the level of personal attention from the Staff far exceeded our expectations. We were blown away by how thoughtful and considerate the Director, Dean, was through each step. In 2012 we were placed with our son after a short 3 weeks, which was just a dream come true. We developed such a great relationship with the agency that we are now on our second adoption and naturally, we chose AMF again. Each year they host an annual picnic for all the adoptive families and it's truly amazing to see all the beautiful and diverse families together. Adoption Makes Family has created just an enormous amount of love. We have also invited him to our son's birthday parties, and each year, he comes. You don't get that kind of personal attention other places. Thanks for all you guys have done for us!

We talked to dozens of agencies before deciding to use AMF and it was a "no brainer"! The level of communication and knowledge made everything easy in an otherwise confusing process. We don't know how we would've made it through everything without them!!
