The Adoption Authority, Inc. was founded in 2007, by a former foster youth. While working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the Founder worked with clients who were victims of unethical, coercive, and predatory adoption practices. Due to her personal experiences, our Founder felt strongly that there had to be a better way to provide ethical adoption services. The original vision paved the way to Adoption Authority’s unique model of practice, which relies on evidence-based research, elevates the lived experiences of the individuals we serve, seeks solutions, and focuses on the need for stable healthy family systems.

Adoption Authority’s Mission is to promote stability by providing counseling, education and assistance to women, children and families.

We acknowledge the vulnerability of parents in crisis, and we are dedicated to providing compassion, respect, and loving care to each individual on their unique journey.

Adoption Authority is thrilled to announce we have strategically aligned with Advocates for Children and Families (ACF), another non-profit licensed child placing agency. The Board of Directors and Staff of Adoption Authority and ACF are actively working towards merging both agencies. We invite you to view our Press Release regarding this exciting new partnership.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We were so blessed by the Adoption Authority. They truly showed care and concern for both the birth and adoptive families. They are ethical, loving, honest and truly committed to helping others.

We absolutely loved working with the Adoption Authority! After having previously worked with a number of different agencies, it was a pleasure to come across Hillary and Linda. As adoptive parents themselves, they take a vested interest in the adoption process. They truly love what they do - they both went above and beyond to ensure we had the knowledge and emotional strength necessary during the adoption process. While we were in Jacksonville, they spent an incredible amount of time with both us and the birth mom - for TWO weeks. During the ups and downs they were there to share in our joy, and also hold our hands during the more trying times. We are so grateful to have worked with Linda and Hillary at the Adoption Authority and always recommend them to others.

We were so thankful to have Hillary to walk us through the process of adopting our son. Hillary was extremely empathetic and yet very practical. We especially appreciated her care and support for our son's birth mom. We felt that Hillary sees the adoption process very holistically and understands the feelings/thoughts of all parties involved and yet keeps the well being of the child first and foremost.

We adopted our amazing baby boy through The Adoption Authority. We had the most wonderful experience! Hillary was absolutely amazing and helped to keep us informed and the process was extremely quick and smooth. She was also there to support our son's birth mother by going to doctor's appointments and being at the hospital when she gave birth. She genuinely cares about the well-being of everyone, and having adopted her daughter, she knew all of the feelings we were experiencing. We will be forever grateful to Hillary and The Adoption Authority for making our dreams of becoming parents into reality.

The Adoption Authority is one of the most ethical, hard working, caring organizations I've ever come into contact with. As an organization, they lay out all possibilities and outcomes honestly, but with the utmost compassion for all parties involved. The love and kindness they genuinely posses for all individuals that come through their agency is exuded through each member of the agency. They are without a doubt a ray of sunshine in an often convoluted world.
