The Adoption Authority, Inc. was founded in 2007, by a former foster youth. While working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the Founder worked with clients who were victims of unethical, coercive, and predatory adoption practices. Due to her personal experiences, our Founder felt strongly that there had to be a better way to provide ethical adoption services. The original vision paved the way to Adoption Authority’s unique model of practice, which relies on evidence-based research, elevates the lived experiences of the individuals we serve, seeks solutions, and focuses on the need for stable healthy family systems.

Adoption Authority’s Mission is to promote stability by providing counseling, education and assistance to women, children and families.

We acknowledge the vulnerability of parents in crisis, and we are dedicated to providing compassion, respect, and loving care to each individual on their unique journey.

Adoption Authority is thrilled to announce we have strategically aligned with Advocates for Children and Families (ACF), another non-profit licensed child placing agency. The Board of Directors and Staff of Adoption Authority and ACF are actively working towards merging both agencies. We invite you to view our Press Release regarding this exciting new partnership.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We adopted our son through the Adoption Authority, and can not express enough praise about the experience with them. The staff were so attentive to both us and the birth parents throughout the emotional process. My husband and I especially appreciate the care and support they continue to give the birth parents even months after we received our child--they even hosted a "Birth Mother Appreciation Day" the day before Mother's Day. I highly recommend everyone at the Adoption Authority!

In the adoption community you will find MANY professionals that are very comfortable taking your money, offering minimum personal care, and while they may have all of the right words or avoid answering all of the hard questions. The Adoption Authority's transparency and care is nothing like I have ever seen. While adoption itself will always be a risk Hillary and her team do everything in their power to minimalize your financial risk, offering near a full refund if a change of heart prior to placement occurs, while dedicating their time to loving and supporting their expectant and birth mothers before, during, and after placemeant (and I am not talking about the 6 weeks stuff that other professionals talk about.) They are in the business of building families but with empathy, compassion, and love. They are what all adoptions should look like.

We feel blessed to have adopted our son through Adoption Authority. Hillary, Linda and Edna were supportive, compassionate, encouraging and caring to our son’s birth mother not only during the adoption process, but after as well. As an adoptive mother it was comforting that Hillary and Linda had both adopted, giving them a personal love and passion for the adoption journey. We found them helpful, sincere, honest, informative, and caring making the process stress free and smooth. They played a special part in our lives and we hold a special place for them in our hearts. We highly recommend them to anyone.

Hillary and Linda are so devoted to making sure that the expectant moms they work with are encouraged, supported and respected. They are both adoptive parents and their true love and passion for adoption shines through in the work that they do. Kudos to The Adoption Authority for making the process a loving one for everyone involved.
