Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

The staff at Gift of Life Adoptions work tirelessly to show their compassion and commitment to providing the best adoption experience possible to both the birth mother/parents and the adoptive families. When you call Gift of Life for information you are met with a crew that is thorough, informative, understanding and kind. Recent staff changes seem to have had a positive effect on the office. The executive director and legal assistant are more than qualified for their positions and do a wonderful job. I would recommend this agency to those who are interested in adoption.

Staff was so wonderful and it was the best experience despite being super hard! Jessica Williams helped me through so much and made the experience all the better! Would recommend to anyone that is looking for a wonderful home for their child!

Gift of Life Adoptions was a phenomenal agency to work with in bringing our baby boy home with care, compassion and professionalism. We are so grateful for their willingness to go above and beyond on availability and for their open communication throughout the entire process. We could tell that the staff here cared about birth mothers and adopting families and we are so grateful for the open relationship we will continue to have with our son's birthmother.
