Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

When I reached out to this agency, they saw me as a vulnerable young mom going through a tough time, and persuaded and manipulated me to make me put my son up for adoption, then LIED to me about who has rights, and what my options were. Totally misinformed me & I regret ever speaking to this agency & now my son is not in the home/family I wanted him to live in. If I had the funds, I’d take you guys to court! 😡

Gift of life adoption are truly an amazing place ! Im one of the birth mothers and im so glad i choose them , completely professional , caring & understanding there EVERY STEP OF THE WAY i do HIGHLY RECOMMEND for any birth moms considering adoption !!!!!!!!

My husband and I are adoptive parents from PA. We found Gift of Life through word of mouth about a year ago and actively began working with them after our home study was completed at the beginning of the year. They've been great every step of the way.
Everyone we've worked with there has been amazingly kind. The staff really cares about you in a way that I'm not sure I expected going into all of this. I expected the process to be more impersonal, but that wasn't the case at all. I know I can be a hard client (I always had a ton of questions!), but all my concerns were addressed with patience and kindness. The staff really seems to care about the birth mothers they see as well. They approach every situation with compassion and without judgement.
As a bonus, our daughter's birth parents are phenomenal. We look forward to developing a relationship with them. My husband and I really couldn't be happier!

Staff very knowledgeable and friendly
