Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

My husband and I love Destiny Adoption Services! Not only are they experienced and very knowledgeable but you can tell they genuinely care for each birth mother, baby, and adoptive parent they meet. We just adopted our first child in November with them and they walked us through each step of the way. We got matched/placed very quickly and became parents within a matter of days and they were always available to answer any questions or concerns. We could not be more grateful for these ladies. We are now in the process of adopting our second child with Destiny and we couldn't ask for a more supportive agency to work with.

Our experience with Destiny Adoptions was incredible. We matched with an expecting mother very quickly and they helped navigate us all through the rest of the experience. Whether it was helping the mother through her decision process with counseling and advice or guiding us through the complicated legal aspects surrounding an adoption, everyone at Destiny was top notch. We felt like they were part of the family by the time everything was finalized and we have recommended them to several of our friends and family members. They continue to follow up with us and the birth mother to make sure we are all doing well, and that comes from a place of caring that I challenge any other agency to match. If it were possible, I would give them 10 stars! How can you rate a place that is responsible for us getting our beautiful son and making us a family? That is beyond priceless and we have them to thank!

Destiny Adoptions helped us achieve a lifelong dream of becoming parents. They were amazing from end to end. The Home Study experience was enjoyable and they answered all of our questions along the way. Each Adoption is different, but all are loaded with emotion. Destiny helped us not only work through the logistics and costs association with parenthood but they also helped coach us on coping with the stresses. We are forever indebted to the incredible team @ Destiny Adoptions and highly recommend their services.

We were blessed to work with Destiny Adoption Services who introduced us to our daughter and brought the greatest joy to our lives. Their heart for birth families and adoptive families alike is evident and the heartbeat of all they do. They truly love and care for each family, child, and story that passes through their doors. We love the entire team and couldn't imagine going through this journey of a lifetime without them!

We were matched with a birthmother for three weeks TOTAL and they took $18,000 from us. They refunded less than $3,000 of that money after asking multiple times. We were told to drive over 20 hours round trip to St. Pete twice at the demands of the birthmother. The agency never once offered to meet with us face to face, and they did not visit the hospital once the baby was born even though DFCS was called. They promised to work with us to find another match and we have not heard from them again.
