Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We are going through the adoption process right now. Our son is 5 months old and we love him. Destiny is helping us to understand every step of the process and they were super helpful during the 2 weeks our son spent at the NICU.

My experience with Destiny Adoption Service was amazing. This was my first adoption and thanks to them I am one happy, absolutely in love New Mom to a beautiful baby girl . Kristen and Lisa were absolutely amazing, supporting, attentive, and knowledgeable. They were there every step (sometimes even before I needed them!) giving me advice and tips. They were honest and upfront, and never made me feel pressured. Most importantly, they were always there (still are) for me and the birth mother. I loved them! I would highly recommend Destiny Adoption Service (and do to everyone who is considering adoption), and I will use them again if I ever decide to adopt again! You just never know what the future holds.

We are so happy we were able to work with Destiny. They have been amazing walking us through our quick adoption. Malia and Robin have been wonderful and have helped make this experience great! We highly recommend Destiny and thank you for everything!!!

I wish there were 6 stars I could give! We are adopting our second son through Destiny - I felt that we had much better support all around this time vs our first adoption that was not managed by Destiny. Everyone we dealt with was professional, responsive, ethical and generally just a pleasure to work with. We felt good knowing that our son’s birth parents were well supported by Destiny and Destiny put a lot of effort into ensuring that we have a good relationship with them. We also appreciate that our son’s birth mother will have ongoing support from Destiny after the adoption is finalized.
