Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Colorado. Foster parents for children and families must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Maintain sufficient income to support a family
  • Have physical and mental capability to care for children and youth
  • Pass a child abuse background and criminal background check
  • Work with a treatment team and undergo future training
  • Complete a Home Study

Prospective foster families can contact a Colorado child placement agency or your local Department of Human Services. Social workers in these child welfare agencies will provide information about Colorado's child welfare system, foster care, and the adoption process.

Social workers recommended that other adults and children in your home agree to provide long-term home care, too. If everyone is ready to welcome a new child, your local agency will help your home become an approved foster home.

I was adopted when I was 4 months old, through Hope’s Promise back in 1996. Twenty-three years later, I had the most incredible opportunity to join HP on one of the connections team trips to Vietnam (my home country) back in November. A a fellow adoptee and participant through HP, I highly recommend anyone who has a heart for orphans and mission to consider what Hope’s Promise has to offer. Forever grateful for the Lord’s hand and the heartbeat and support of this nonprofit as it’s had a valuable and life changing impact on my life.

I had one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences regarding Hope’s Promise Connection Team. I traveled to Kenya, Africa in 2017 with the team and my eyes were forever open. Hope’s Promise’s values when it comes to helping those in need are unparalleled and I feel lucky to have been apart of their story. As a Christian and someone who wants to adopt in the future, I have nothing but great things to say about Hope’s Promise.

How can you dislike a group that spends their time finding homes for children? All of the employees are amazing, wonderful people who are kind, patient, and courteous. Hopes Promise does work all over the world.
