Requirements to become a foster parent
You're never alone when you foster as you work as part of a professional team. Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services partners with many organizations to help support foster children and the families that care for them.
The collaborative Foster Caregiver Mentor Program encourages peer relationships between foster families. It's an effective way for new resource parents to meet with more experienced caregivers and get advice.
Your local DCFS also has plenty of resources online, including parent handbooks, contact information, and emergency service information. You can learn more about child welfare agencies and how to become a foster parent.
A child-placing agency is always there for you, providing support in times of crisis or even when you have questions. Don't forget about the case worker, who you can contact if you feel lost.
Working with the birth parents is another part of a foster parent's job. However, you don't have to simply contact them to set up visitations and calls. Co-parenting with them is often best for the child, and it can make your job easier.

After working here for a short amount of time I realized that child welfare is constantly failing it’s employees tremendously. I have never in a million years worked for an organization that’s prided themselves in belittling their employees. My supervisor in the child welfare office (TONI BUXTON) continuously put me down with words and actions that lead me to believe if I were treated in this manner I can only imagine the way in which the families that they work to serve were treated. The state should investigate the morale in the child welfare office and more importantly they should hold the administrative employees accountable for their actions instead of sweeping matters under the rug. After multiple attempts to resolve issues with HR, I realized how much I didn’t matter and resorted to other employment. Thank God I left this agency.

If I could only give 0 stars I would! The people that handle all of the child cases with reports to child protection services are absolutely DESPICABLE they have no actual concern for the child’s well being. They take absolutely no accountability for their actions well I should say their NON-actions! I could say so much more about my personal situation but I’m not going to blast my entire situation on here. All I can hope and pray for is that honest working individuals that care and love children will start working here. There’s too many children and families in this state that have had UNFAIR dealings and circumstances with these Evil people !!!

This place doesn't deserve 1 star. The employees don't follow up, don't investigate, don't read and learn their cases. We have been trying to get my step daughter for almost 2yrs. Every Wednesday and Friday we do video calls because unfortunately she's located out of state. The CPS where she's located has been more helpful. We are tired and I'm tired for my husband, tired for my stepdaughter. SHE'S READY TO COME HOME
