Today, Children & Families of Iowa stands on this foundation of caring as one of Iowa’s largest, most well-respected providers of family services. From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving thousands of Iowans every year, the organization has grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child and family deserves to be safe.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.
You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.
The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.
You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.
Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

Forgot to cancel the morning of my appointment because I had to take my wife to the ER for post covid symptoms. Wouldn't of mattered since you have to give a 24 hour notice before your scheduled appointment and they don't even have a way to cancel over the phone or online during the weekends that they are closed. How do I know this? because I called on Friday after they had already closed to see if they have some sort of answering machine to cancel but nope! They don't. Got charged $150 for a no show. Got some lecture about how "we're running a business" got to talked down to like a child, receptionist letting out long deep sighs from her annoyance. Just amazing customer service! Anyways she ended helping me (somewhat) but the headache they put me through was more than enough to not return.

Vicki is an amazing person to go to. She’s kind, compassionate, and understanding. She’s down to earth and all around a really good person. She’s helped me overcome a lot of obstacles and I couldn’t be more grateful. I definitely recommend.

I have been going to therapy for much of my life, making small progress but never monumental/life changing. That all changed after finding Ankeny Family Counseling 1.5 years ago.
Tristin has helped me work through much of my trauma that has allowed me to understand, accept and begin to live a life of confidence and peace.

Ankeny Family Counseling has amazing counselors that care about the outcome of their clients health mentally, physically, and spiritually. My healing process has been at my pace and truly a positive life changing experience!
