Restoring Hope, Building Futures, and Changing Lives

Children & Families of Iowa is one of the top family services organizations in Iowa. Through its programs and services, the organization helps everyone from children who need a safe home to adults learning to cope with trauma.

Today, Children & Families of Iowa stands on this foundation of caring as one of Iowa’s largest, most well-respected providers of family services. From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving thousands of Iowans every year, the organization has grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child and family deserves to be safe.

Children & Families of Iowa doesn’t just offer solutions for families and children in crisis. It offers hope when it seems like there is none left. It offers a chance to build better futures. It offers an opportunity to change lives.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.

You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.

The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.

You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.

Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

This is a great place to receive counseling! I have been working with Lindy and she is the best. I don't enjoy therapy, it's hard work but she makes it bearable and worth it!

The facility itself is amazing and has always been more than welcoming and accommodating. Thea is by far the best therapist I have ever had, so patient and kind, I have and will continue to recommend this place.
