Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

I chose heart of adoption i was very nervous at 1st but my case worker shannon was amazing the family I chose the love I have for them is unexplainable the agency was very understanding and supportive and at 1st I didnt have a great support system so having heart of adoption was a great support system I would recommend them to anyone who wanted to place a baby for adoption

I was recommended by The Adoption Network and I'm so glad that I used them for the transition of my son. The staff was wonderful. My counselor/case worker was amazing. We still keep in contact to this day. I would definitely use them again if I had to and I would definitely recommend them to anyone that asked.

We had an incredibly unique and complex case - and Heart of Adoptions truly went above and beyond - especially during some of the more emotional times - for our family. I will be forever grateful to the entire team - they made us feel not alone during a very unique and unexpected situation.
