Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Heart of Adoptions' staff is courteous, knowledgeable, compassionate, and dutifully listens and responses to their clients' needs. Let me first start by mentioning my wife and I had a disrupted adoption previously--not with HOA, but in another state all together. I mention that because our optimism and case in general, kept us very cautious throughout the process. HOA met that, empathized with our situation, and handled the process delicately and uniquely, putting my wife and I at ease.
Alyse was a huge help in making sure all our paperwork for our home study (including all those fun clearances) were in order and even helping us get some last minute fingerprinting scheduled in Florida (which we didn't need, so she also helped us cancel to get a refund). She was transparent throughout the process. During our virtual visitation, Alyse didn't seem rushed to get to where she was going next and took a general interest in what we were discussing. She took the time to get to know our situation.
Amy was great in walking us through all the various paperwork in their office. The paperwork was emailed ahead of time, but Amy was also ready to answer any questions we had with great understanding and knowledge. Again, this helped keep my wife and I at ease through this delicate process.
Natalie was our life line during (and after) the process. She was always available to answer any questions and provide much needed clarity and help keep us grounded. Even though we did not get to meet Natalie, it felt as if she was arm-in-arm with us advocating for us all along the way.
Heart of Adoptions has the reserved and delicate balance with knowledge, transparency, and honesty needed to guide you through the complicated and emotional journey.

Our experience with Heart of Adoptions was wonderful. Carolyn was great about keeping us informed and being sensitive to the needs we had, as well as those of our birth mother. We had connected with the birth mother and so we were completing an identified adoption and we live in another state, so it was important that they notified us quickly about any and all forms, etc., that Florida needed; they did a great job with this as well.

We recently matched with a birth mom and found the love of our lives with the help of Heart of Adoption. Navigating interstate adoption, especially during an unprecedented pandemic was complex, to say the least. But, we had thorough, dedicated, around the clock care and support in our case worker and the entire organization. The follow through, even after our placement, has been a welcome relief and we are so grateful for the talented, compassionate ally we found in Amy Nickerson.

This is one of the hardest things to do in my life but Carolyn was there for me through everything and I mean everything even after I had my child. I grew a special bond with Carolyn and if your having to make a choice about adoption this is definitely the route to go because the business didn't get that name for no reason. Always putting their heart out for us mother's having to go through the hardest time in our lives. Wonderful Amazing❣️❤️😊 HEART OF ADOPTIONS... I LOVE YOU GUY'S.. 💖💖💖
