Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

My husband and I adopted our son through Family Creations. Our adoption consultant found them for us, and let us know that she works with them because they have so many successful adoptions. I believe this can be contributed to the support and relationship they build with the birth families. Our son's birth parents were supported emotionally during this process and it is evident that the focus at Family Creations is to make sure that the expectant parents have the educational resources to explore all their options. We are grateful for the fabulous relationship we have with our son's birth mother, which was facilitated by Family Creations. We will be working with them in the future.

Thieves. We were matched in February 2017 with an expectant mother and paid over $14,000 upfront which is normal and expected. What is not expected is for the expectant mother to less than a month later be incarcerated for adoption fraud, having never been pregnant, and Family Creations being unwilling to return the over $14,000 that they could not account for! They are just as much committing fraud as the false expectant mother! Stear clear of these thieves!

We adopted our beautiful baby girl through Family Creations in 2013. We cannot say enough good about this agency, but I would say their greatest strength is the relationships that they build with the birthmothers. No adoption is without some obstacle or difficulty but the professionalism of the staff at Family Creations facilitated a very smooth process for us. We felt valued and protected. I believe this was possible because they had first established a trusted relationship with, and genuine care for, the birthmother, which enabled them to offer meaningful insights to us as prospective adoptive parents and keep us in the know. It is much more than a business to them: we felt compassionately cared for as they walked with us through the first meeting with the birthmother, the actual birth and signing of papers, the court date to finalize the adoption months later, and countless moments in between. Many hugs (and tears!) were shared. Our baby girl has added unspeakable joy to our lives, and we enjoy frequent correspondence with the birthmother. We are forever grateful for Family Creations.

I am angry! I love family creations ! But I am angry about a family member who is at this time taking advantage of your looking pregnant who is receiving check for rent which she cashes with her mother and takes the money that's ment for rent to buy drugs !! She's also selling the gift cards she's giving ! For drug money ! And to top it off .She was never going to give her baby up for adoption ! She knows by law all the money u give her and the phone bill u pay , and the place your supposed to pay to put her in to live , nothing will be done to her because she going to say she changed her mind ! And nothing can be done to her ! She's going to pick out a family and there hopes and dreams up ! But she just doing to get free money and free housing and free drugs and u can't do anything about it!!! It's wrong and something needs to be done to stop people like this !!! I am angry and embarrassed to be related to her ! Please when you give these girls cheaks for rent make them show proof of what they paid !! Because u shouldn't;be paying for her drugs !! And these poor babys that's going to addicted to drugs

My husband and I loved working with Family Creations. Our process went smoothly with them which we were grateful and relieved for because it was our first time adopting and we were very nervous about literally everything. They were always available if we had questions or were getting anxious about anything. They gave us both business and personal contact numbers so we could always get ahold of them whenever we needed, even if it was just for reassurance from self-created worries :). From our knowledge and experience they took wonderful care of the birthmama in our case and they truly loved and cared for her (and still do). Upon meeting and speaking with Kirk in person we understood more of the process behind their support of expectant mothers and that they put a lot of effort into ensuring the expectant mothers are confident in their decision to place their child (prior to even choosing an adoptive family) and prepare them as best they can on feelings they may experience following delivery so that they can feel prepared and hopefully not surprised at the emotions they may feel. They also helped us understand what our birthmother would be going through following placement so we could better support her as well. We are very grateful to Katherine, Kirk and Kiah for their support and for treating us like friends and for always looking out for our birthmama before and after she delivered. Blessings and best wishes to all who read this on your adoption journey, it truly is an honor to be called to adopt.
