Requirements to become a foster parent

Utah families receive monthly foster care payments to help offset the costs of raising a child. This stipend is meant for room and board, clothing, and related expenses.

The amount you receive varies based on a child's age and needs. Children that require more attention and care have slightly higher rates.

Foster youth have their medical and dental needs covered through Medicaid. This insurance should be enough for any doctor's visits, therapy sessions, dental exams, etc. Foster children also qualify for free school lunches.

Utah parents can take advantage of mentorship programs that allow them to learn from more experienced foster families. It's an excellent way to connect with others and build a support network. Plus, you'll have someone else to turn to if you have questions.

Utah Kids Belong has an app that gives foster parents access to special discounts from foster-friendly businesses. It's also an easy way to connect with faith-based communities, which may offer other types of support.

CSS offers Ethical Options Counseling to any expectant parents, free of charge and without referral. In addition to their Kinship Programs, Childcare Support, and Home visitation programs, CSS is the oldest Child Welfare agency in the state of Utah! Highly recommend!!

I love working for Children's Service Society's Adoption program. We won the Utah Ethical Leadership Award for Nonprofits 2018. It's important to me to work for an ethical agency. We empower families and all caregivers to support the safety and well-being of children. We also are a leader in supporting and serving LGBTQ+ families. I work with the best co-workers as well as the best adoptive families.

The experience we had with CSS was incredible!
Allison, Liesl, and Becky feel like a part of our family.
They helped us navigate through some emotional times, good and bad. We ALWAYS felt love and support from this team.
The knowledge these ladies have between them about adoption and life after adoption is by far greater then I have ever seen anywhere else.
We highly recommend CSS and encourage anyone to use them so you too can feel like the love and support like we did through a emotional yet very rewarding journey.

Our experience with CSS was pretty great! We had no idea what we were doing this was our first adoption and they helped us out tremendously. With that being said though we had a few moments of miss communications between our lawyer and them. But they were wonderful other than that they truly care about the kids not only that they truly care about these mothers putting there babies up for adoption. Even though we used there services only for a home study and to help our birth mom out cause we had a private adoption they were great Allison was such a sweetheart and Liesl all though we never met her helped our birth mother out so much! So thank you ladies! Also if we ever adopt again we would love to use this adoption service again and recommend it to anyone.
