Requirements to become a foster parent

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) provides foster care support, such as connecting parents to hotlines and listing information about the licensure process. Besides the State Department of Human Resources, many private agencies in Oklahoma are dedicated to helping foster children and the parents that care for them.

The Oklahoma Family Network (OFN) helps children with special healthcare needs. OFN can connect parents with appropriate resources and training. Their Resource Directory lists organizations and professionals by topics, such as food assistance or disability services, so you can easily find help in your area.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) is part of the Children’s Health Act. You can learn more about child trauma and trauma-informed care. There are also informational materials and training available through the NCTSN.

Additionally, private adoption agencies offer programs and support for any parent interested in fostering to adopt.

I will be forever grateful to CPO for the care and love they showed our birthmom during her unplanned pregnancy. The volunteers at CPO truly go above and beyond to care for women who are faced with difficult situations and we've seen so many beautiful stories unfold because of CPO.

CPO is an incredible, caring and giving organization. All of the volunteers truly care about everyone that calls them. Whether it’s someone that’s making an adoption plan for their child, someone that needs support while parenting or couples hoping to adopt. I’ve seen them help girls in crisis situations many times in many different ways. Our lives are forever changed through CPO since we adopted our 2 kids through this organization. They taught us how to have an open adoption and why that is best and it’s the best thing we have ever done for our kids and their birth mothers. We love CPO!

We have 3 biological children and adopted our 4th child through CPO. We had explored other adoption agencies and found that CPO was the agency who's policies and practices benefitted the birth mom, child and adoptive family most consistently and whole heartedly. They are constantly working to love and support all parties involved in the beautiful, and often difficult journey of adoption. When you adopt or place your child through CPO, you have a support system for life! We cannot say enough good things about CPO!
