Foster parents provide care for children who cannot safely remain in their own home. Foster homes provide support for foster children through either the Department of Health and Human Services or a contracted foster care agency.

There is an ongoing need in Nebraska for families willing to share their hearts and their homes with children who require temporary foster care. There is also a need for “forever” families for our waiting children, especially teens, who are available for adoption.

The Nebraska Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, NFAPA, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was formed in 1999 to increase the amount of information, resources and support available to Nebraska's resource families. If you are not able to find the information you are seeking on our site, please feel free to contact us - we will guide you to the resources that will best meet your needs.

Requirements to become a foster parent

If you're worried about being on your own as a foster parent, don't be! Many resources are available to families.

There are plenty of educational materials on the Nebraska DHHS website. You can learn about definitions and common phrases, Medicaid for foster youth, and what it means to become a resource parent. Plus, there are consultants available to resource families.

Remember, there's plenty of information you can find online as well. From blogs to books, there's no shortage of educational materials for foster parents. Many informative materials cost nothing and teach you invaluable tips.

You'll work closely with your local foster care agency. You'll always have at least one point of contact to turn to if you have questions.

Don't forget about creating a support network. Make sure to include other foster parents and advocates from your area. You'll face obstacles on your journey, such as navigating the legal system or saying goodbye. Having the right person on your side for support makes all the difference.

you'll be dying on the cold streets before you get help. you'd have an easier time killing someone in cold blood than getting your food stamp application approved.

Dannette R. Smith the head of Health and Human Services of Nebraska, inquired the opinion of the Attorney General of Nebraska about bringing disciplinary actions against Doctors who prescribe Ivermectin for off label use. Ivermectin has a very successful track record saving lives with off label use. Apparently, Dannette R. Smith want's to join the tyrants in Australia and Canada blocking a life saving medication in my opinion. How tyrannical of her. I think Pol Pot would be proud of her. Perhaps, she's admires the communist regimes who've in the past denied their people medicines and food. For this to happen in Nebraska is simply pathetic. Fortunately, the freedom loving Attorney General denied the want to be "tyrants" claim. How dare she. How dare she interfere with your private relationship with your personal doctor. Shame on her. Many medical doctors during interviews have testified they've collectively saved thousands of lives using Ivermectin. Yet, Dannette the "Tyrant" Smith want's to deny Nebraskans the right to live by using a life saving medication. The alternative to off labels meds like this, sadly, has been death in the ICU for many. Many who are given Ivermectin come home. This is science and it's based on fact.

Y'know what, NDHHS saved my animals. When I was faced with a sudden power outage, Laura worked tirelessly to get my bill handled and my power turned back on. LES fought me tooth and nail the whole time while Laura was amazing and polite.

Yeah, there are long hold times and not every employee is going to be like Laura but in the end the system that is in place to help you is 5/5 100% of the way. Not everyone is going to qualify, but they qualify people way better than they did the last time I needed help 20 years ago, and the service is much better as well!

Incompetence....They are never consistent. You never get a straight answer. The person on the other end of the line, acts like they are the ones giving you money. They treat you like a second class citizen. They are rude. They don't care. None of the departments work together. They haven't a clue what the other one is doing. ADC/State takes your child support..no matter how much you get, they keep it if you're on ADC. They don't give you the remaining balance. They don't tell you when you sign the ADC contract that you forfeit all child support, no matter how much is paid. I have never witnessed a more slothful institution. No oversight. When you do have proof of bad behavior or mistreatment, they pass it off and selective hearing sets in.

YOU HAVE A 1.7 RATING AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. WHY ?

This place is a waste of tax dollars. They don’t care a bit about helping with the current Covid wave. The person on the other end of my call had not a clue as where to get Covid testing.
Worthless !
