Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services
Foster parents provide care for children who cannot safely remain in their own home. Foster homes provide support for foster children through either the Department of Health and Human Services or a contracted foster care agency.
There is an ongoing need in Nebraska for families willing to share their hearts and their homes with children who require temporary foster care. There is also a need for “forever” families for our waiting children, especially teens, who are available for adoption.
The Nebraska Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, NFAPA, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was formed in 1999 to increase the amount of information, resources and support available to Nebraska's resource families. If you are not able to find the information you are seeking on our site, please feel free to contact us - we will guide you to the resources that will best meet your needs.

Requirements to become a foster parent
If you're worried about being on your own as a foster parent, don't be! Many resources are available to families.
There are plenty of educational materials on the Nebraska DHHS website. You can learn about definitions and common phrases, Medicaid for foster youth, and what it means to become a resource parent. Plus, there are consultants available to resource families.
Remember, there's plenty of information you can find online as well. From blogs to books, there's no shortage of educational materials for foster parents. Many informative materials cost nothing and teach you invaluable tips.
You'll work closely with your local foster care agency. You'll always have at least one point of contact to turn to if you have questions.
Don't forget about creating a support network. Make sure to include other foster parents and advocates from your area. You'll face obstacles on your journey, such as navigating the legal system or saying goodbye. Having the right person on your side for support makes all the difference.

Once you are diagnosed with cancer it’s not for the state to tell anybody that they’re not sick enough or the age 65! that’s beyond ridiculous. You're considering taking someone’s assistance away. It Is very low for anybody to be the cause of someone to be unable to receive treatment, or to have to stop treatment because of your opinions regarding their health. Regardless of age, someone shouldn’t have to be on there death bed to receive help. People are dying all over because of cancer! This is unacceptable, there should honestly be some kind of petition.. enough is enough.

if you are unfortunate enough to have to use DHHS for any of your services, i apologize. our caseworker is incompetent - i’m convinced they find people on the street, give them a 5 minute rundown of their services and throw them into the job like that. most of these workers are fresh out of college and don’t know what they’re doing. they only help you when it’s convenient for them, or when things go the way they want. probably the most un-American government program that i’ve ever seen. not only do they treat you like second class citizens (especially if you are at or below the poverty line), but it’s dehumanizing in general having to work with them. if you can find other resources, go through them. the 1.7 star rating on DHHS should be more than enough to deter you.

Quite literally the worst customer service I’ve been encountered. Rude staff, no concern for you or your family’s, and very obviously poorly trained.

Honestly don't think they're here to " protect" children at all. Told me my daughter was safe in a home they never even went inside of, or talked to any of the residents. Told me it was a hippa violation to know anything about my daughter's case, when there was absolutely nothing to know. Filed a gricence, and though they're well aware of the flaws in the system, no one will do anything about it. I'd give them q negative 100 rating, along with lpd. Incredibly disturbing.
