Requirements to become a foster parent
There is plenty of support available to resource families. Foster parents work as part of a team that includes the birth parents, social workers, school staff, a court-appointed advocate/guardian ad litem, and other professionals.
Your foster care agency is there for you every step of the way. They answer questions, provide training, offer resources and referrals, and help you address any obstacles or concerns.
Since you work as part of a professional team, the birth parents can also be a valuable resource. Working with them is in the best interest of the child, and it can make your job easier too. You can learn about foods or hobbies that the child likes, study methods that work, and so on.
Check your area for local support groups as well. They advocate for foster youth and can guide you on your journey.

Do NOT use this agency!
We have worked with three adoption agencies and IDHW; this agency is HORRIBLE!
The staff is extremely unprofessional and cruel. Their communication is terrible. They tell you what you want to hear and then they go back on their word after they have taken thousands of dollars from you and wasted years of your time. When you try to voice concerns, they refuse to meet with you or take months to respond to an email.
They act as if they are cultural experts and are extremely controlling about if you can adopt outside of your race. We had used them for our home study for years in order to hopefully adopt from Bulgaria and then all the sudden the owner decided she had concerns about us supporting two different races in our household. It appeared she was unaware that my husband was Mexican like our adopted daughter, because he has fair skin.
The agency has one social worker complete all the home studies. She does not understand adoption trauma. She is extremely judgmental; instead of asking questions she makes assumptions. She thought when I said Indian, I was referring to Indigenous Bulgarian and told me Lebanon is not in Asia. I have never been so mortified in my life. The owner refused to meet with us when we voiced these concerns and said she had reviewed this email prior to it being sent to us, which was more horrifying.
Their counselor is extremely inappropriate. She recommended a “sex toy” to our 13-year-old, whom the counselor had previously told us is mentally/behaviorally around the age of 7.
If they weren’t misleading enough, multiple five-star reviews are from the staff members themselves and their family.
I hope you spare yourself the nightmare of working with this agency.

As a birth mother I would suggest doing your homework for an agency that would fit you in the future. I used new beginnings and they helped me find the BEST family and I thank them for that part but after the adoption was finalized they dropped me like I never existed and that was hard because all of the promises in the beginning of “you will have our support forever we’re here for you “ ETC..is not what I’ve received, it’s been 3 years and i have never heard from them again. For me thankfully I found support in others but for those who don’t have support I couldn’t imagine what you would feel after the hardships that birth mothers feel as it is and to not have the agency that said they are there for you just drop you like your nothing. It’s heartbreaking. So all I’m saying is to me it felt like it was all about there next paycheck and there hearts aren’t in the right spot.

The amazing staff was so supportive, caring and knowledgeable as we navigated the choice to adopt. The stepped us through the process and answered all questions and supported us completely. I highly recommend working with them.

We can not even begin to express how much we enjoyed working with A New Beginning. Not only are they professional, they are caring and truly have the best interest of everyone during this sensitive time. We would fully recommend this agency for anyone looking into any form of adoption. Not only is the education and support provided during this process great they also have continuing opportunities for education and support well past the adoption process. Thanks A New Beginning you have changed our lives!

As a birth mother, A New Beginning went above and beyond for me. Choosing adoption is, and was, scary. But Cara, Emma, and Stephanie held my hand through it all.
The ability to choose the best fit for where I'd like to place my child, and the continuous support they gave me after the placement made the process bearable. It's been a few years since my placement, and I continue to receive support from ANB when I need it. Whether it be talking through feelings or helping bridge connection, I'm forever thankful that they keep supports open.
