Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Awesome in every way. Let me first start by saying that our home study experience was quick, easy and informative. Their name says it all- they are there to "connect hearts." After finding an attorney and settling in for our wait, it was Amy who provided a connection with a possible adoption. A week later we brought our beautiful baby girl home. I can't wait for our post-placement so I can introduce our little miracle to the people that made it possible.

We had just moved to Florida and were daunted by the prospect of going through another home study. Amy and her team did an amazing job simplifying the process. Amy has all the forms laid out for you, and keeps fees reasonable so that getting into the adoption process is accessible to all. We loved our time with our consultant and actually looked forward to our post-placement visit as a way say thank you to her for helping us make our family whole.
