Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Amy, Alice, and the entire team have been complete blessings through our adoption processes. They accommodated all our needs - with speed, thoroughness, gentle hands, and truly open hearts. Amy was very warm yet realistic. She helped us so much in becoming parents and being educated. I felt like I had known Amy for years. Amy was very great at communication as well which can be a life saver in an adoption situation.

Love Amy- she is quick to respond, very accessible and knows her job and the process of adoption in and out.
She also helps you to network with other adoptive families and professionals to make your dream of becoming a parent come true.
I started the home study process with Amy in March and was holding my beautiful new daughter in July.

As an adoption attorney, many of my clients need Home Studies and Amy is the only person I refer. She has been very helpful to introducing clients to the process, working around their schedule, as well as help them when other agencies have messed up.
