Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We are so thankful for the professional way Amy and, in our case, Tara conducted our Home Study and the follow up. They were always there to answer any questions we have had in our unique adoption circumstances, and Tara did a thorough job in her personal visits and reports. She has also helped advise us on several issues. We appreciate Connecting Hearts helping us navigate a process that was brand new to us.

Connecting hearts adoptions is a very professional and well run organization. Amy Imber is extremely knowledgeable in the world of adoption and has amazing women working for her in different parts of the state doing home studies. There is really no reason to go anywhere else for a Florida Home study!

We are so THANKFUL we used Amy for our home study. The process was straightforward. Now that we are searching for our baby Agencies and attorneys a like all breathe a sigh of relief when we say Amy did our home study. They all say “then we know you’re go to go her studies are solid”. She’s well know and well respected in the adoption world.....but all of that aside she truly cares. Being one of her families gives us access to much needed support in this process.
