Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We cannot recommend Amy and Connecting Hearts enough! When I first called her and knew little about the adoption process, she was so friendly and answered all of my questions. She is very easy to communicate with and provides quick responses! She immediately made us relax during our home study. She referred us to reputable attorneys for the next steps and was very helpful along the way. Highly recommend Connecting Hearts for anyone starting their adoption journey!

I was given Connecting Hearts name and number from my adoption attorney after picking up a 6 month old little girl who was being turned over to the state. I stepped in and took over guardianship and started the process of adoption. I was looking for the most expedited process and when I contacted Amy she was amazing! I called her on a Tuesday and by Sunday I was having my first home study. Her staff are sweet, kind, professional, and have become extended family. Amy & Tara were always quick to respond, very helpful, and a joy to work with. I am a little sad to say that we had our final home study last week but I know that we will stay in contact in the future. If you are interested in adoption this is the company to use!!

Amy Imber is very professional and is very efficient. Her website is accessible on mobile devices which helps speed up the paperwork process. She is quick to return calls, texts and emails. She is very knowledgeable about the adoption process and knows which agencies/lawyers are reputable and good to work with.
