American Kidz is a full-service adoption agency. We are licensed in the state of Florida as AmericanKidz Adoption Services, Inc. and in Georgia, as AmericanKidz of Georgia, Inc. AmericanKidz was the "brainchild" of founder Kathleen Calcutt in 2004. Kathleen and her husband Patrick Calcutt are both attorneys and partners in the law firm of Calcutt & Calcutt, P.A. Kathleen and Patrick are the parents of six children, including three adopted boys.

AmericanKidz provides legal and counseling services to coordinate the adoption of newborn infants, children in foster care, and children with special needs all over the United States. AmericanKidz also works with Americans stationed or working abroad. The staff of AmericanKidz has a special appreciation for the intricate and important details of the adoption process. It is our goal to provide you with the best service possible as we work with you to expand your family through adoption.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We are so thankful for AmericanKidz and everyone on the team! The adoption process overall is deeply emotional and hard for all parties involved for different reasons. We feel like AK walked that road so gracefully and honored all the parties involved -even in difficult situations. Janee and Anya were phenomenal! Competent, professional, gracious and kind. We felt 100% supported and they were invested heavily in growing our family in this way while always maintaining the dignity and integrity of our birth moms. We have completed two adoptions through AK and Kathleen was there to bring us in and to wrap up each adoption. But beyond the formal adoptions - they have been available for our questions and changes and updates. They are like extended family and we cannot recommend them highly enough!

Warning to all birth mothers this agency isn't how it seems if you're doing an open adoption they promise that they will help you keep in contact with the family that adopted you baby that is a lie they will bribe you with money and promise you that you will be taken care of at the end my cesarean incision opens up twice and I called them until then about it and they had no feeling they said I had to deal with it also when it was time for my postpartum appointment they didn't help like I was promised
