It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.
It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.
At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.

Requirements to become a foster parent
There are myths and misconceptions about what you need to qualify as a foster parent.
Foster parent requirements vary by state. Parents must be at least 21 years of age in Arkansas. However, there cannot be more than a 45-year age difference between the child and the parent.
Marriage is not a requirement for fostering. Single individuals may apply.
Every foster parent in Arkansas must:
- Pass a background check
- Have a physical exam
- Complete the Arkansas Home Study
- Complete required training classes
- Pass the home inspection
- Attend face-to-face interviews with a state foster advocate
- Maintain financial stability
In addition, foster homes must have enough room for the foster child. This includes 50 square feet of bedroom space for personal belongings.

Bethany Christian is a wonderful agency! They are dedicated to walking with expectant parents before and after placements. They genuinely care for everyone that comes to them. They also do an excellent job of equipping adoptive families during the adoption process and provide a ton of resources and support. I love the heart behind this agency.

Just did a lunch & learn provided by Bethany Christian. Wonderful women working through God. I was pleased to learn about all of the programs provided by Bethany and the ministry. They honestly care about every soul that walks though their doors and provide knowledge, patience, and understanding on every level.

My husband and I have been so pleased with Bethany Christian Services in Arkansas. We are having an amazing experience with them! We would highly recommend this agency. They are so patient in answering all our questions, educating us and walking through the adoption process with us. We are so thankful that God led us to them as this journey is all so new to us. We also love the support and counseling they provide to expectant and birth parents before and after placement.
