Our Mission

Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and the Gospel imperative, Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services are outreaches of the Catholic Church in Western Washington, under the leadership of the Archbishop of Seattle and the Boards of Trustees. CCS and CHS answer the Gospel call to loving and compassionate service with particular concern for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and the dignity of the human person. Our employees and volunteers come from many faith traditions to serve and support poor and vulnerable people through the provision of quality, integrated services and housing. Our focus is on those individuals, children, families, and communities struggling with poverty and the effects of intolerance and racism. We actively join with others to work for justice.

Requirements to become a foster parent

If you have questions or you're experiencing an emergency, contact your Child Welfare Office. If you're dealing with a medical emergency, contact 911 immediately.

The crisis support line for your local Child Welfare Office is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is also after-hours support via the Contact Central Intake at 1-800-301-1868.

Washington residents can also access their regional mental health crisis line regardless of whether they have insurance. These helplines are open and staffed 24/7 all year round.

Washington foster families also have the Alliance Caregiver Retention, Education, and Support (CaRES) program. New parents can learn from CaRES mentors. Alliance CaRES partners with the Department of Children, Youth & Families to provide resources and assistance to foster and kinship families across the state.

Foster parents can also access discounts across Washington, such as state parks, zoos, etc. You can find more information about these free programs and discounts on the CaRES website.

Online tools, such as foster parent portals, help make fostering easier and streamline the application process.

I was placed on the H.E.N. program by DSHS back in August of last year. In September I had two different opportunities for really nice housing. One was on a boat. One was in a brand new building that had a loft bedroom. Because there was no staff for 2 weeks in September of last year to house people and take care of the paperwork necessary to do so, I lost out on these opportunities. Also tried to work with Alberta one of the housing staff people. She initially told me that when I found housing, to contact them and they get right on it. Almost a year later a letter was sent to me stating that every 3 months I need to be reassessed for my needs! Obviously half ass! At that point I was told that the housing staff was not the only people that could take care of paperwork and that a lot of the people there are volunteers. So apparently that makes it all right to not house people and lose them in the bureaucracy while they suffer outside! Would've been nice to know this last September when I was trying to be very thorough with Alberta, calling her, leaving voicemail messages and leaving emails that we're all unresponded to. Terrible program, was placed on the program because of disability. About 1 months ago was assessed as no longer eligible for the program, as if I'm suddenly not disabled!

They also lied to me, stating that I would have a bus card for July and August. July went through and on August 2nd I needed to go to a doctor's appointment in excessive heat. I got on the bus only to find that the bus card didn't work! I then called up CCS and was told that the card wasn't paid for because I was cut out of the program!! So apparently F me and F my doctor's appointment!!

It's a sad travesty that this is the only housing program that King County works with. It doesn't work! CCS claimed that I had funding available for a 1 bedroom unit for a little over $800 per month. This means that the program saved $800 times 12 months ($11,200!!!!!!!!) while I am still forced to rot outside as a disabled low-income vulnerable adult, only getting sicker from this forced punishment. I hope for a day when there's enough decent human beings that every human being is allowed to have housing!!

CCS: Thanks for being useless! Still homeless 16 MONTHS later...
