Requirements to become a foster parent
The state requires that foster parents get licensed through their local Department of Social Services or a licensed private agency. These sources will be your best form of support. Through them, you'll receive training and have a point of contact for emergencies.
If you ever have questions, reach out to your case manager. They're trained to assist foster families and the children in their care.
The Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina is a statewide association that recruits new parents, provides training, and offers support. You can find training and webinars online. You can also read parenting tips, find your region, and more.
The National Foster Parent Association is a non-profit that provides training and education. Caregivers can also find free online training through the NFPA.
The NC Division of Social Services (NC DSS) is the agency in charge of overseeing the state's child welfare system. NC Kids assists new foster parents with the early stages of the process. You can find children awaiting adoption and access foster care and adoption support services.
It also helps to form connections with other foster families, especially those with years of experience. You may have questions or need advice from them. It can make you feel like you have someone on your side through your journey.

Most awesome place in the world for a child to have to end up when they are split apart from their family. Wonderful, warm, friendly, helpful, smiling, and overall just completely accommodating staff that loves every single child that comes through their home and treats them like their own children or better than their own children. When our lives fell apart and we needed somewhere safe for our kids to go for a few months after our home burnt down so that they could be taken care of and be safe and not be homeless they took them in and treated them like they were the most wonderful kids on Earth. It was more like a summer camp adventure for them than a children's home they make the experience so wonderful that the children barely even realize that they've been split apart from the families and their worlds turnt upside down. They enjoyed it so much they almost didn't want to leave when it was time to come home LOL, God's hand is truly on this place his arms around this place and his angels encamp around about this place. I truly believe with all my heart that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ appointed these people in this place to save the lives of countless children over the years and try to guide the Next Generation into law-abiding, Jesus following, Christianity driven, upstanding driven and contributing members of society. Thank you God that we have places like this to raise up this next generation of children that have been afforded no opportunities in life and torn away from normal family lives at home and driven to a place where they felt like they had no one else and nowhere else to go and have taken them in like their very own family and taught them, guided them, protected them, love them, and discipled them into young men and women that the outside world can look at with respect and adoration and trust, and be proud of. Thank you Falcon Children's Home for your many sacrifices of time, love, family, and money to help raise these broken and hurting children in such a way that they know they've been loved. Amen!!!
